Ar ol glaw trwm ddoe mae'r haul yn gwneu ar faes yr Eisteddfod heddiw ac mae'r heulwen cynnes wedi rhoi gwen fawr ar y cystadleuwyr ac ar drefnywr yr wyl.

Cadeiro'r prif lenor ydy prif ddigwyddiad y pafiliwn heddiw ond ar gyrion y maes mae llawer yn digwydd. Mae'r enwog Glyn Wise yn mynd i lansio ymgyrch i gyhoeddi i'r byd for dysgu Cymraeg yn Cwl. Does ond rhaid i rywun roi ei drwyn i fewn i'r Eisteddfod i weld fod hynny'n cael ei wireddu'n barod.

Bellach ymlaen bydd y Comisiynydd Plant yma i lansio ymgyrch i sicrhau gwell hawliau i blant. Eisioes mae gan plant Cymru lu o hawliau nad ydynt ar gael gan eraill.

Ac ni ddylid anghofio'r prif gystadleuaeth ar y Maes. Darganfod pwy sy'n edrych fel Ffarmwr Ffowc. Gwelai chi no fuan.

Rhyw charter awr fus i mewn ciw traffig ddoe ond roedd ddigon i roi cynchwyn drwg i'r diwrnod.

Felly heddiw, i osgoi'r trafferthin, dyma gychwyn o adra'n gynt. A dod i draffig tu allan i'r maes am 7.30! Ie mae'r Maes yn ferw gwylly o fore tan hwyr. Llond y maes parcio o geir. Ac hyd yn oed yn y glaw roedd na blant yn canu ac adrodd ar eu ffordd i'r rhagbrofion.

Cefais hefyd y pleser o siared gyda dysgwyr iau - plant o Ysgol Glanwydden, Bae Penrhyn oedd yn cyflwyno barddoniaeth o lyfr newydd sbon - Sgram.

Rhywsut neu gilydd mae'r Gymraeg yn adfywio. Mae'n cwl bellach i siared Cymreag, nid fel yn ysgol Blaenau ers stalwm lle roedd pawb yn siared Cymraeg ond y dysgu i gyd yn Seasneg. Fel canlyniad roedd na un neu ddau o'm cyfoedion yn siared Saesneg hefo'i gilydd er bod y Gymraeg yn iaith naturiol iddynt.

Dywedodd Rachel ei bod wrth ei bodd yn clywed y Gymraeg yn cael ei siared ac yn gwneud pob ymdrech i ymarfer gymaint a sydd bosib. Mae'n haws, meddai, yng Nghaerdydd y dyddiau yma. Dydi hi ddim yn medru dychmygu Cymru heb y Gymraeg. Cewch glywed mwy gan Rachel, a'r plant yn darllen barddoniaeth, ar y wefan.

(Ysgrifenwyd y pwt yma neithiwr ond am resymau technegol dim ond bore ma mae'n cael ei gwblhau.)

Oleia mae hyn yn rhoi fwy o reswm i fynd o stondin i stondin ac yn gwario ychydig mwy o maser ynddynt nag arfer.

Ymhlith y trysorau ar stondin y Llyfrgell Genedlaethol mae rhai o luniau'r diweddar Geoff Charles o Eisteddfod yr Urdd, Llanrwst 1968.

Yr Eisteddfod honno oedd y cyntaf i mi gael fy ngollwng yn rhydd. Fel disgybl blwyddyn gyntaf yn Ysgol y Moelwyn, Blaenau Ffestiniog roedd na gyfle i ni fynd draw i fwynhau'r wyl. Nid hon oedd y tro cynta i mi fod yn Eisteddfod yr Urdd. Cefais brynhawn yn Eisteddfod Porthmadog yn 1964 a chyfnod byrrach yng Nghaergybi yn 1966. A bod yn onest does gennai fawr o go o'r r'un digwyddiad ond mae'r lluniau yn dod ag atgofion yn ol.

Ond does neb yn cofio'r fath wynt.
Yn ystod ddoe roedd y gwynt dwyreiniol yn chwythu dros 40 milltir yr awr. Doedd dim byd wedi ei falu na neb wedi ei anafu ond dyweddodd Elin o Landwrog fod aros yn y garafan neithiwr fel "cysgu ar long". Fu rhaid i'r teulu godi'n aml i sicrhau fod yr adlen yn sownd. Ac wedyn roedd rhaid iddynt fynd ati i gystadlu. Da hogia!

But hacks and toggys in the pressrom have been experiencing the same problems throughout the week in sending our words and pictures down the wires to our newsdesks.

And the gremlins struck yesterday on this blog. Efforts to keep online viewers up to date with events failed. No one is able to say why except shrug shoulders and say something will be done.

We live in hope.

Thursday is very much the day of the Welsh learner. The Learner of the Year will be presented to the Eisteddfod pavilion at lunchtime and followed by the Archdruid Selwyn Iolen presiding over the learner's literary prizes in Maes D.

The rumours sweeping around the Maes at lunchtime proved to be half-right. Two judges wanted to award Tony Bianchi the main prize while a third did not. It would be interesting to know what happened in the privacy of the judges room!

Tony, now lives in Cardiff but was born originally in Northumberland and moved to Wales when he studied at the university in Lampeter.

A fluent Welsh speaker with a Ceredigion accent he puts many of those who claim the language is just too difficult to learn. Not only has he written prize winning novels but has also written prize winning poetry too. Not just free verse but the most difficult form of strict metre poems, the englyn.

Veteran folk singer, politician and businessman Dafydd Iwan announced to more than 3,000 people in the Eisteddfod Pavilion he will not be retiring from public performances.
Dafydd announced his retirement from singing engagements at the Llanelli Eisteddfod seven years ago and there was a grand farewell concert.

Since then there have been several more final performances - and equally as many come back appearances.

But during the concert in the Pavilion tonight he said he would be appearing again, and again with a performance in Cwm Sychnant lined up later this month.

Dafydd was joined on stage by folk group Ar Log for the concert to celebrate 25 years since they toured Wales to commemorate 600 years of the death of Llywelyn ein Llyw Olaf.

The hair may be greyer but the years rolled back as Dafydd and various musicians sang their way through his song book. We were even "treated" to a special rendition of Cwm Rhyd y Rhosyn - a ditty he penned especially for children. Its annoyingly catchy and I'm still humming it now!

Dafydd was also joined by rockers Tara Bethan and Mike Peters. Both were wildly applauded by the crowd. But the biggest cheers were reserved for compere Ray Garvell. His voice had been heard from the start but when he appeared the audience rose together and applauded his bravery.

The climax of the two hour show was the whole ensemble leading the audience in the big Dafydd Iwan/Ar Log anthems - Cerddwn Ymlaen and Yma o Hyd. Followed by Dafydd's call to arms I'r Gad the audience went home happy.

Note: This was written last night but because I'd left the mobile phone in the car I could'nt send it down the line. I spared Eisteddfodwyr the sight of me in my pajamas looking for the vehicle.

It's raining - a heavy shower is making life uncomfortable on the National Eisteddfod Maes.
No one wanted the rain but at least it was forecast. Spots of rain were falling before the first of the Gorsedd ceremonies this morning but officials wisely decided to risk the waether and the sun shone warmly throughout the hour-long ceremony.

Twenty-one people from all walks of life - from students to sculptors, from translators to police inspectors, were inducted ito one of the three ovates.

There were cheers when Ceidwad y Cledd, (Sword bearer) met his predecessor. Robin McBryde, the former Llanelli and Wales rugby player has taken over temporarily from his former teamate Ray Gravell while he is recovering from emergency surgery which led to his right leg being amputated below the knee.

Ray was in fine form on the sidelines signing autographs and chatting about his diabetes which led to his hospitalisation. And he vowed to return to sword bearing duties, at least on a limited basis, at next year's National Eisteddfod in Cardiff.

Parking the car at the Eisteddfod and the smell of frying bacon filled the air.
The car park is close to one of the numerous catering areas and the early arrivals were being drawn into the Maes by the delicious smell wafting in the air. Despite the need to get into the pressroom to carry out urgent preparation work the temptation was too much and a bacon and egg roll was enjoyed along with a mug of steaming tea.

Making my way to the pressroom I noticed one of the hard-working Eisteddfod staff getting herself ready for the day ahead. Using an electric hair dryer at the workplace must be some sort of record!

To use a horse racing term the car parks today are good to soft while the going is a little firmer on the Maes itself. I'm all ready for the off.

I seem to have upset some members of the Brass band fraternity
Completely unintentionally I hasten to add and I apologise for the slip. A member of a leading brass band has pointed out that their insrtuments do not "blare" as I noted in one of my blogentries yesterday but, in the most skilful of hands and lips, make pleasing sounds to the ear.

I concur completely. As a former member of the Oakley brass band in Blaenau Ffestiniog many years ago I cannot think where the slip came from. Blame it on editorial pressure.

Mentioning the Oakley I was delighted to see them win their section at the Eisteddfod on Saturday. A just reward for their efforts last year when they trekked down to Swansea and got second place.

Its Sunday morning at the Eisteddfod Maes and its packed.
More than 2,000 people were in the main pavilion this morning all dressed in their Sunday best for the traditional morning service.

It is not a scene repeated often in Welsh chapels and churches and its fair to say that most of the service goers were of mature years. One retired minister of religion commented "if we could instill this sort of enthusiasm we'd be packed to the rafters every week".

The service was followed by hundreds of tiny tots taking part in the relatively new Nursery School pageant. Singing traditional folk songs with gusto that was a sight to gladden the hearts. The audience was largely the same however and it was good to see both generations alongside each other enjoying the unique atmosphere in the pavilion.

Outside crowds are milluing around the various stands enjoying the warn sunshine.

Eisteddfod organisers are concerned at the risk of sunburn and are handing out suncream at the entrances. One journalist, perhaps blinded by the unaccustomed sight of the sun this summer, thought it was an energy drink and very nearly put the sachet to his lips. Luckily he realised his error just in time!
