It's raining - a heavy shower is making life uncomfortable on the National Eisteddfod Maes.
No one wanted the rain but at least it was forecast. Spots of rain were falling before the first of the Gorsedd ceremonies this morning but officials wisely decided to risk the waether and the sun shone warmly throughout the hour-long ceremony.
Twenty-one people from all walks of life - from students to sculptors, from translators to police inspectors, were inducted ito one of the three ovates.
There were cheers when Ceidwad y Cledd, (Sword bearer) met his predecessor. Robin McBryde, the former Llanelli and Wales rugby player has taken over temporarily from his former teamate Ray Gravell while he is recovering from emergency surgery which led to his right leg being amputated below the knee.
Ray was in fine form on the sidelines signing autographs and chatting about his diabetes which led to his hospitalisation. And he vowed to return to sword bearing duties, at least on a limited basis, at next year's National Eisteddfod in Cardiff.
